
The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Mr Basikopo Makamu attended to service delivery challenges raised by residents during a Public Participation Programme in Musina.
The Public Participation that took place at Nancefield New Hall on Friday, 6 November 2020 had representatives from stakeholders such as Older Persons, Musina Council of Churches, Musina Farmers' Association, Persons Living with disabilities, Small Business, Youth and Arts & Culture Council voicing out their challenges to CoGHSTA MEC.
Residents pleaded with the MEC to intervene on issues of illegal occupation of immigrants in the majority of RDP's in Nancefield. The cutting-off of water and electricity remains a challenge in Extension 07 and 14.
Mr Jeffery Makhura, a representative from the Musina Farmers' Association thanked the MEC for taking time from his schedule to hear what the challenges of the community of Nancefield are."As farmers in Musina, we plead that our requests for water and electricity to be connected not only in Nancefield but at our farms also be met," he said.
In response to the issues raised, MEC welcomed all the challenges raised and assured residents that with regard to illegal occupation of houses, a verification process of house owners will be done to determine if occupants of the houses are indeed owners of the houses.
"With regards to the disconnection of water and electricity in Extensions 7 and 14, a contractor has already been appointed to reconnect water and electricity in two weeks' time on or before the 30th of November 2020." He assured residents.
MEC Makamu ended the engagement with residents of Musina by promising to forward other issues recorded to sister departments.
