Mr Rodgers Basikopo Makamu, was born in Giyani, Mopani District, where he completed his secondary school studies at Matsambu High School in 1994. He went on to obtain a qualification as an educator majoring in Accounting at the Tivumbeni College of education in Nkowankowa, Greater Tzaneen local municipality. In 1996 he assumed duty as an educator and later resigned to join the local Government Sector.

Makamu worked for Greater Giyani Municipality as accountant Revenue and manager Revenue respectively.

He resigned from the municipality when he was elected to a full-time position as the ANC Mopani Regional Secretary. During his tenure he won the credit of building the region as a coherent and vibrant part of the organisation in the Limpopo Province.

Makamu’s meteoric rise within the ranks of the ANC in the Limpopo Province culminated in his election to the Deputy Provincial Secretary.

It was in the capacity of ANC deputy provincial secretary that the organisation deployed him to the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from whence the Premier, Mr Stanley Mathabatha appointed him as Member of the Executive Council of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on 26 July 2018.

During his tenure at Agriculture and Rural Development Makamu gave the Department a deserved facelift and heightened its public profiles

After the 08 May 2019 National and Provincial Election Premier Chupu Mathabatha appointed him to the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) where he is expected to return the Department to its historical multi-awards winning days

Makamu has pursed studies in various disciplines like Financial Management, Taxation, Practical Municipal Accounting, and Financial Performance Measurement for Municipal Senior Managers.

He is currently pursuing studies for BCOM Financial Management through distance learning.
